During a family trip to Door County, I recently found myself sipping a delicious white blend and enjoying an exquisite cheese platter at a pleasant log cabin escape in Egg Harbor. Located just off of Highway 42, this cozy winery shares its property with Wisconsin Cheese Masters, a small shop offering a wide variety of Wisconsin cheeses to pair with whatever wine you feel like drinking that day.
My first impression of Harbor Ridge Winery was a warm one: as we pulled into the parking lot, I could immediately tell that this place was full of the classic charm reminiscent of so many other Door County restaurants. Inside the homey cabin is a gift shop and tasting room where you can order your wine and anything else you may want to take home as a souvenir. The outside, however, is just as appealing. Even though it is mere feet from the highway, it still attempts to create a bit of a scenic getaway: on a nice summer day, you can enjoy the weather by choosing to sit outside of the cabin at one of its various outdoor patio tables, or walking amongst the vineyards, where a peaceful gazebo sits waiting to accommodate a group of wine aficionados, family members, or casual friends.
Browsing the wine list, I found I had trouble choosing a glass to try – they all sounded exquisite and right up my alley (wine is among my favorite types of alcohol, after all). Harbor Ridge features a unique selection of oak-aged, red, white, rosé, and fruit wines, but after perusing the menu for a while, I ended up choosing the 2017 Mademoiselle, a semi-sweet white blend. My sister and dad tried a sparkling rosé and a pinot respectively, and all three of us were immensely happy with our decisions. My mom stopped by Wisconsin Cheese Masters to bring over a selection of some award-winning cheeses to pair with our wines, and we had a delightful afternoon of wine-tasting and snacking in the Door County sunshine. If you ever find yourself in Egg Harbor and in need of a relaxing hour or two, head on over to Harbor Ridge Winery with some friends for a delectable glass of wine and a cheese board from Wisconsin Cheese Masters – you’re guaranteed to be more than satisfied.
